Our mission

About

This site documents and celebrates the historical people, cultural inheritance, and territorial continuity of early American settlers and their descendants—the English-speaking population that established the nation’s founding institutions, regional traditions, and connection to the land.

It highlights their history, contributions, and ongoing legacy through archival material, profiles, contributor content, and ongoing discussion.

The name

“Ourselves and our Posterity” comes from the Preamble to the Constitution: the founders wrote that they meant to “secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity.” The site takes those words as its purpose.
