This policy explains how we feature creators and how anyone can ask us to remove content.
Permission first
We only create a creator page, embed a creator’s posts, or publish their writing after we have their written permission (by email or signed form). We record the date, what was agreed, and where the written permission is stored.
Your work stays yours
Creators keep full ownership of everything they share. Featuring your work here does not transfer any rights to us. We show only what you agreed to, with credit and a link back to you.
Official embeds only
We never download or re-host creators’ videos. Reels, posts and videos appear through the platform’s official embed (for example Instagram’s embed tool), so they stay on your account and under your control. If you delete or hide a post, it disappears from our Site too.
Articles
Written work you submit is published under your name with your permission. We may make light edits for length and clarity and will check substantial changes with you first.
Writing standards for articles
Articles published on the site are held to the same standards as our library:
- Primary sources first. Build on letters, diaries, records, laws and first-hand accounts, and cite them. Use classic and well-regarded scholarship to add context.
- Accuracy. Dates, names, places and quotations should be checked against the sources.
- In the terms of their own time. Describe people and events as they were understood by those who lived them and by the historians of the main American tradition, without anachronistic judgments.
- Focus. The history, folkways and continuity of the English-speaking American population — its settlements, families, institutions and connection to the land.
Editors may make light edits for length, clarity and accuracy and will check substantial changes with the author first.
Removing your page or content
You can withdraw permission at any time, for any reason. Use the removal request form or email bradleybuildsit@gmail.com. We aim to remove the requested content within 3 business days and will confirm by email.
Copyright concerns from others
If you hold rights to something on the Site and didn’t give permission, use the same form with the request type “Copyright concern,” tell us what the material is and where it appears, and confirm you are the rights holder or authorized to act for them. We will review and remove material promptly where appropriate.
Heritage Atlas photos
Family photographs added to the Heritage Atlas stay the property of the people who share them. By submitting, you confirm you have the right to share the photo and agree it may be shown on the map. Every photo is reviewed before it appears. You can edit or remove your photos at any time from My photos, or ask us to remove one using the removal form. Please don’t include the home address of a living person.
Creator edits on the channel and radio
Short creator videos and commentary segments are aired only with the creator’s written permission, recorded the same way as creator pages. Creators can withdraw permission at any time and the item will be taken out of the lineup.
What we air on the channel
The 24/7 channel shows only material that is public domain, owned by us, properly licensed, or shared with the creator’s clear permission.
